Pledges = Programming
There are a variety of reasons that people participate in the High River Half, for some its just the love of running or wanting to beat personal bests, or to just take in and enjoy the beauty of High River’s view of the mountains in one of the most picturesque runs you can do in Southern Alberta.
Regardless of the reasons you run, the money you raise is hugely impactful to a unique group of individuals that reside in High River, Okotoks and Strathmore. Adults with developmental disabilities that are clients of the Foothills Advocacy In Motion Society. The funds raised go towards employment and community access programming. This programming can be the foundation for our clients in achieving a meaningful life.
This year we really want to share our story to a wider audience and challenge you to try and raise even more funds for this wonderful cause through pledges and inviting fellow runners to participate. The Running Room has made this an easy process where you can create a profile, enter goals and even enter a team.
Last year we hit an all time high of over 300 runners!
Lets make 2018 a banner year in beating that number!
Part of our commitment to you, the participant, is that we will be instituting changes like more washrooms, post race pampering and food.
A few of the goals of the High River Half Race Committee are that the High River Half becomes a destination run enabling the High River community to share the beauty of our town and to become known as a true runners run and family event.
We have also updated our blog to include winter training tips to keep your fitness up and stories of the businesses that employ our clients. This is an important facet of the FAIMs story because employment coupled with the supports that FAIMs brings to the job site, helps our clients to fulfill their dreams of independence. And we are very thankful for our employers who empower, advocate and give back to the community in one of the most impactful ways possible, through employment.
FAIMs wants to share our story and celebrate this great work with the community.
Last year, through your participation and generous donations to the 2017 Servus Credit Union and Foothills A.I.M. Society High River Half Marathon, over $15,000 was raised! By becoming involved in the High River Half, you are supporting over 100 adults with developmental disabilities who work in High River, Okotoks and Strathmore. Donations and fund raised through initiatives, such as the run, support many individuals who access the society’s services. On behalf of all staff and clients from Foothills A.I.M. Society we wish to extend our thanks and we hope that you will continue to participate in the annual Servus Credit Union High River Half Marathon and Fun run.
